On the 25th of April 2024, the International Girls Day in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) was celebrated. Marked each year on the fourth Thursday of April, this day aims to encourage and inspire girls and young women to explore study and career opportunities in these scientific fields. This is an initiative of the United Nations specialized agency for ICT that has been running since 2011.
This year’s theme was “Leadership”, pointing out the importance of having women as role models in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Even though they represent 40% of highly qualified professions worldwide, women’s participation in these sectors is still low. Therefore, having contact with women in leadership positions is essential to inspire girls and young women and eliminate the obstacles that limit their progress in these areas!
At Tlantic, we admire the outstanding work of our female employees. Each one of them brings unique ideas that enrich our work environment and inspire innovation in retail. We are proud to promote the presence of women in leadership positions in technology, as shown by the figures:
- 40% of our employees are women
- 55% of the board of directors at Tlantic is made up of women
- 63% of management positions are held by women
In order to celebrate the International Day of Girls in ICT and our commitment to gender equality, here are some tips from our talented professionals:
“I encourage all women working in tech to persevere with determination and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. Each one of us plays a crucial role in driving innovation and redefining the boundaries of what is possible in this industry.”
Carla Geraldes, Principal Product Manager
“For young women in tech, my advice is to initially focus on business aspects before specializing on a technical level. Understanding the client and their demands is crucial to developing effective solutions and standing out in the market!”
Joyce Verona, Senior Scrum Master
“Working in tech is extremely rewarding because we’re constantly learning and facing new challenges. My advice is to stay curious, resilient and passionate about innovation, and you will definitely succeed in this industry, which is so dynamic.”
Cátia Antunes, Associate Service Analyst
As we applaud the achievements of our talented female employees, we emphasize the importance of giving women more opportunities to enter and excel in these areas. Together, we will build a brighter and fairer future!
